ONLINE COUPLES COUNSELING IN UTAH
Steady Love Counseling
Personalized couples counseling for partners who love each other but feel stuck in recurring conflict, emotional distance, trust injuries, or intimacy concerns.
Counseling can help you slow down what keeps happening between you, understand the emotions and Protective Parts beneath it, and begin creating new ways of reaching for one another.
You Love each other, but something keeps getting in the way.
Maybe you keep having the same fight.
Maybe one of you reaches for connection while the other pulls away.
Maybe conversations quickly turn into criticism, defensiveness, shutdown, or distance.
Maybe trust feels uncertain, intimacy has become complicated, or attempts to repair never seem to last.
When this happens again and again, it can begin to feel as though one partner is the problem.
You are not the problem. Your partner is not the problem. The Cycle is what keeps pulling you apart—and each of you is responsible for how you respond within it.
What Counseling Can Help With
-
When the same arguments keep repeating, it often signals something deeper underneath the surface. We work to understand the cycle, the unmet needs, and the protective moves that keep the pattern going.
-
When closeness feels harder to access, counseling can help couples understand what created the distance and begin rebuilding emotional safety, responsiveness, and connection.
-
When conversations turn into arguments, defensiveness, or withdrawal, counseling can help both partners slow down, feel heard, and communicate without escalating.
-
Whether trust has been impacted by betrayal, secrecy, or ongoing conflict, we focus on rebuilding emotional safety, understanding, and repair.
-
We explore the emotional, relational, and physical barriers that can make closeness feel complicated, and work toward rebuilding safety, trust, and connection.
-
Major changes like parenthood, relocation, family stress, or career demands can strain even strong relationships. Counseling helps you navigate these shifts together with more clarity and connection.
-
Whether you are newly engaged or preparing for marriage, counseling can help you strengthen communication, clarify expectations, understand conflict patterns, and build a strong foundation for the future.
Don’t see your specific concern listed? Every relationship is different. Schedule a consultation to discuss what you are experiencing and whether couples counseling may be a good fit.
In Counseling, we slow the Cycle down.
Couples counseling offers a structured, supported space where you can begin understanding what happens beneath conflict.
Together, we will identify the triggers, emotions, meanings, and protective reactions that keep pulling you into the same painful pattern. Both partners will have space to speak and feel heard.
Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, we will work to understand each person’s experience, what each response may be trying to protect, and how those responses affect the relationship.
As the Cycle becomes clearer, you will practice staying present, sharing more openly, responding with greater understanding, and repairing moments of disconnection.
The goal is not perfect communication. It is a relationship that feels safer, more responsive, and more connected.
My Approach
My work with couples is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, attachment-informed relationship principles, and a parts-informed understanding of protective reactions.
I do not view one partner as the problem. Instead, I help couples recognize the pattern they have become caught in—and understand the fears, emotions, meanings, and needs beneath each partner’s response.
In our work, we will slow down difficult interactions, make space for both partners’ experiences, and practice new ways of responding that build greater emotional safety and connection.
When earlier experiences are intensifying present-day reactions, I may also integrate Accelerated Resolution Therapy in individual adjunct sessions when clinically appropriate.
The goal is not to determine who is right. The goal is to help both partners feel more understood, more emotionally safe, and more connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. All sessions are conducted virtually, allowing couples throughout Utah to access counseling from the comfort and privacy of their own home.
-
Both partners must be physically located in a state where I am authorized to provide counseling at the time of the session. Steady Love Counseling currently serves clients located in Utah.
-
Most sessions include both partners. At times, I may recommend an individual session with one or both partners as part of the couples counseling process, but the focus remains on supporting the relationship.
-
It is common for one partner to feel more ready than the other. Couples counseling can begin with curiosity, questions, and a willingness to understand what has not been working. Your partner does not have to know exactly what to say before beginning.
-
I do not align with one partner against the other. My role is to understand both partners’ experiences and help you recognize the pattern occurring between you.
At the same time, not taking sides does not mean treating all behavior as neutral or equally shared. Each partner remains responsible for their choices and their impact. Harmful, coercive, or abusive behavior is addressed directly, and safety takes priority over mutual Cycle work.
-
Sessions are typically 55 minutes and most couples begin by meeting weekly. Consistent sessions help us slow down your recurring patterns, build momentum, and begin creating new experiences of connection.
As things begin to improve, we may gradually space sessions farther apart. The frequency of counseling will be tailored to your relationship, your goals, and the level of support you need.
-
The length of counseling depends on your goals, the level of distress, and the patterns you are working through. Some couples come for a focused season of support, while others benefit from longer-term work as they rebuild trust, safety, and connection.

Steady Love Counseling is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. A limited number of reduced-fee appointments may be available based on current openings.
A complimentary 20-minute consultation is available to discuss what brings you to counseling and whether working together may be a good fit.
I understand that cost is an important part of deciding to begin counseling, and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have so you can make an informed decision.
-
At this time, I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill upon request, which you may be able to submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies depending on your specific insurance plan, so I recommend contacting your provider to understand your benefits for out-of-network mental health services.
-
No. Standard couples counseling may not be appropriate when there is ongoing coercion, intimidation, violence, sexual pressure, severe control, or fear of retaliation for speaking honestly.
A consultation can help determine whether couples counseling is appropriate or whether individual, safety-focused, substance-use, or other specialized support should come first. Couples counseling also requires sufficient willingness from both partners to participate honestly and take responsibility for their own behavior.
Prefer to Begin at Your Own Pace?
Some individuals and couples want help understanding their patterns but are not currently seeking individualized therapy.
Steady Love courses offer self-paced relationship education, guided reflection, and practical tools. They can be completed individually or alongside a partner, but they do not provide assessment, individualized treatment, crisis support, or a therapist-client relationship.
