The Past Does Not Stay in the Past— It Can Shape How We Love
Long before our adult relationships begin, we start learning what closeness, conflict, emotion, safety, and belonging mean.
We may learn to stay quiet, care for everyone else, avoid conflict, prove our worth, remain in control, or expect that our needs will be dismissed. These responses often began as understandable ways of protecting ourselves or preserving connection.
Roots 150 helps you look back with curiosity rather than blame, understand what you learned to carry, and choose what you want to keep, soften, or change.
Your history may help explain your reactions, but it does not remove responsibility for the choices you make or their impact on others.
This course may be a good fit if:
Your reactions sometimes feel stronger than the present moment seems to explain.
You want to understand how childhood experiences, family roles, or earlier relationships may still influence you.
You recognize familiar roles such as caretaker, peacemaker, achiever, fixer, protector, or the one who stays quiet.
You learned early to handle things yourself, be the responsible one, fix problems, keep the peace, or not need very much from anyone.
Certain moments quickly touch fears of rejection, failure, abandonment, criticism, or not being enough.
You want to understand your Protective Parts with greater compassion while remaining responsible for your choices.
You want private, self-paced reflection that does not require your partner to participate or personal experiences to be disclosed.
What Understanding Your Roots Can Help You Do:
Recognize the messages you learned about love, worth, emotion, conflict, and belonging.
Identify the roles you carried and how they may still shape your relationships.
Understand why certain moments touch especially Sensitive Places.
Approach your Protective Parts with compassion while remaining responsible for their impact.
Distinguish past expectations and fears from what is happening in the present.
Choose which beliefs, roles, and patterns you want to carry forward—and which you are ready to change.

Created by Angie Bledsoe, LMFT
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. My work helps individuals and couples understand the emotions, meanings, and protective reactions beneath conflict, disconnection, and hurt.
I created the Steady Love Method™ to make attachment-informed relationship principles practical, understandable, and accessible outside the counseling room.
Roots Beneath the Cycle offers a compassionate way to explore how earlier messages, roles, and protective strategies may still shape your relationships today—without blaming your family, excusing harmful behavior, or requiring you to disclose private experiences.
The goal is not to remain focused on the past. It is to make more intentional choices about what you carry forward.

Begin on Your Own— or Learn Alongside Your Partner
Roots 150 can be completed privately, whether or not your partner participates.
If your partner joins you, each person can move at their own pace and choose what feels appropriate to share. Optional practices can help you better understand the messages, roles, and Sensitive Places each of you brings into the relationship.
Your personal reflections belong to you. Partner practices are invitations, not requirements, and should never be used to analyze, pressure, or blame one another.
One purchase includes course access for both partners within the same household.
Emotional & Relationship Education, Not Therapy
The Roots Beneath the Cycle provides emotional and relationship education, guided reflection, and practical tools. It is not psychotherapy, trauma treatment, crisis care, or individualized mental-health treatment.
Move gently. You may pause, skip, modify, or stop any exercise. You do not need to remember every detail of your past or disclose painful experiences to benefit from the course.
If reflection brings up traumatic memories, panic, severe numbness, disconnection from the present, or distress that feels difficult to manage safely, pause and seek support from a qualified mental-health professional.
Optional partner practices assume that both people can choose what to share, respect boundaries, and participate without pressure, punishment, or retaliation.
This course is not designed to address abuse, coercive control, threats, violence, sexual coercion, or fear for safety. In those situations, individualized, safety-focused support is recommended.
